About Us

Freedom Flyers is a group of R/C enthusiasts who have the privilege of flying on the grass strip of Rick's Hobby Farm just south of New Richmond, Wisconsin.

It is one of the premier facilities in Wisconsin boasting a landing strip long enough for a full-scale plane landing (yes, it has been done).  The lake on the property makes for excellent float flying every Thursday night from April to October or for boat and ship raceing.  There is also a first-rate R/C car track with banked corners and enough bumps for the mildest car to become airborne.  Rick has N scale model train layouts in the train shop at certain times throughout the year. Owner Rick Ohlfs built and maintains his "Field of Dreams" with a little help from his friends.  At this time, he mows seventeen acres throughout the summer and into the fall.  He calls the mowing his therapy. This years addition is a heliport for nitro and electric helicopters.!

History
Rick had this 80 acres and a dream for a place where hobbyists of all kinds could congregate and enjoy their hobbies to the fullest.

Rick told the flyers in 2002 that he was going to build a north-south  runway and sure enough, that is what he did.  The flyers built the first small shelter, which is now the car racers' shelter, in May of 2003.  Sadly, new home construction at the north end of the runway forced a change in the direction of the runway and again Rick established a new east-west runway to avoid flying over the residences.

The second shelter was built along the new runway.
